ABOUT ABOUT

Full of intrigue, bravado, and laughs, The Liar is a delightful urban romance as fresh as the day Pierre Corneille wrote it, brilliantly adapted for today by Venus in Fur's David Ives.

Paris. 1643. Dorante, a charming young man, has but a single flaw: he cannot tell the truth.  He quickly befriends and hires Cliton, a manservant who cannot tell a lie and falls in love with Clarice,  whom he unfortunately mistakes for her friend Lucrece.  What our hero doesn't know is that his father is trying to get him married to this selfsame Clarice—a point complicated even further by the fact that she is already secretly engaged to Dorante’s friend Alcippe.  Nor is he aware that the real Lucrece has fallen madly in love with him!  From all these misunderstandings and breathtakingly intricate lies, springs one of the Western world’s greatest comedies.

The Liar will be produced in Austin Playhouse's temporary theatre in Highland Mall.

The South Entrance (by the Image clothing store) is closest to the theatre.

We do not recommend parking in the main lot off Airport Blvd. From the South entrance, proceed down the escalator and turn right. Austin Playhouse will be on your right by the water feature. Detailed directions are available on our website: http://austinplayhouse.com/season/tempfac.html
